Quality and environmental performance

So what do we do to improve our quality & environmental Performance?

We nourish soil naturally by limiting tillage and leave plant residue which helps to preserve soils organic material, increase water – holding capacity, while storing carbon dioxide (CO2)

Our farmers grow their fruits in small fields, enhancing biodiversity.

We have minimised the use of N (nitrogen) as much as 80%.

We use solar energy to store our fruit into our cold rooms.

We measure our environmental performance to asses our impact.

We manage water wisely by using drip irrigation while reducing the evaporation.

Forging the path to Environmental impact assessment

The importance of environmental management has been realized since the early days of operation of ZEUS KIWI who pioneered environmental certification in Greece. Local environmental effects of kiwifruit and grape farms were given priority. Monitoring and continuous improvement of environmental Performance with regard to local effects drove us to establish a low input type of kiwi and grape farming. Next step has been to examine the effects of this farming to environmental issues of more global concern, especially those related to global warming. The Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) of the International EPD System was chosen as the vehicle for communication of the results of this ‘from planting to consumer’ Life Cycle Assessment to the market.

How we communicate our environmental efforts?

EPD in kiwifruit

Pioneering in understanding and improving our environmental footprint, we ve been the first to have measured our environmental footprint in kiwifruit production back in 2012 and have renewed our declaration in 2022.

EPD in seedless grapes

Taking it a step further, we’ve evaluated the environmental impact of our grape production, using it as a guide to set an ambitious goal: providing carbon-neutral produce to our markets, all while enjoying responsibly!

Zero waste to Landfill

None of our waste ends up in landfills! We reached up to 95.22% of waste recycling and responsible disposal. We are proud to have done one more step towards environmental protection.

Why traceability is so important to us

1. Quality Assurance:

monitor and control every aspect of the production process so as to identify and address any issues that may arise, ensuring that only high-quality products reach the market)

2. Safety and Compliance:

we perform hundreds residue analysis in a yearly basis, to ensure our produce safety and risk of cross contamination

3. Assessing our Environmental Performance:

there is a great deal of information throughout the entire life cycle of our produce! This wealth of information help us identify the areas where there is room to improve more our sustainable practices.

4. Continuous Improvement:

Our many years of experience, as well as our commitment to excellence, has engaged us to strive for optimization, efficiency and improvement in all stages from field to fork.
